Exact turbine meters calibrated by FORCE Technology enable Energinet.dk to ensure correct payment for natural gas.
The forces of nature are strong when the North Sea throws its waves against the coast at Kjærgaard Plantage in West Jutland. A lot of force is also involved when natural gas from the large gas fields in the North Sea reaches the coast at the same place. How much gas the pipe feeds through the supply system in the country in exact figures, Energinet.dk knows due to its large turbine meters.
Correct payment
Energinet.dk is the result of a merger between Eltra, Elkraft and Gastra. The company is responsible for sufficient transmission capacity for electricity and gas to cover consumption in Denmark now and in future. Energinet.dk receives the gas from DONG’s gas processing plant in Nybro and sends it on through the transmission network to the distribution companies. The large turbine gas meters measure the amount of gas at pressures up to 80 bar, and they have to measure correctly for further transmission and correct payment for the gas.
European perspective
In order to ensure optimum measuring precision, Energinet.dk has previously had its meters calibrated at large laboratories in the Netherlands and in Germany where the required capacity is available.
This was the case, at any rate, until 2005 when FORCE Technology in Vejen established a new, accredited high-pressure laboratory which, so to speak, measures up to the large laboratories. Here, the laboratory technicians and engineers can handle all types of flow and natural gas meters. Since then, Energinet.dk has changed supplier and now uses FORCE Technology for calibration of its turbine gas meters.
According to Department Manager Jesper Busk from FORCE Technology, the perspectives for the national reference laboratory for gas flow meters in Vejen are tremendous. ”We expect to expand our existing geographical customer group in Scandinavia to include the Baltic countries and Northern Germany and long term the rest of Europe”.
Reduced costs and time of delivery
Co-operation with FORCE Technology enables Energinet.dk to ensure correct payment and to reduce its costs: ”We avoid the many expensive transport costs abroad and time of delivery is significantly reduced”, says Contract Coordinator Svend-Aage Petersen from Energinet.dk in Birkerød. ”We can now have our meters calibrated in Denmark and the service provided by FORCE Technology is excellent. We need the meters to function 100 per cent at all times”.
